Réécrire en C1

The United Kingdom: institutions, politics, economy and society · niveau 2

Énoncé

Réécrire au niveau C1, sans en changer le sens : (a) London is very rich but the North of England is poor. (b) After Brexit there was more immigration, not less. (c) The British system is not fair for small parties.

Corrigé

(a) In 2023 London produced more than twice as much per head as the North East, a gap that successive governments have pledged, and failed, to close. Donnée datée (ONS), relative ironique (pledged, and failed, to close).

(b) Paradoxically, net migration rose after the UK left the EU, as the end of free movement was offset by a surge in arrivals from outside Europe. Paradoxically signale l'idée ; to be offset by (« être compensé par ») exprime le mécanisme.

(c) First-past-the-post systematically under-represents parties whose support is evenly spread: in 2024 Reform UK won one vote in seven but fewer than one seat in a hundred. Le jugement vague (not fair) devient un mécanisme et une preuve.
