Vrai ou faux : les institutions

The United Kingdom: institutions, politics, economy and society · niveau 1 (application)

(a) The British Prime Minister is elected directly by the people. (b) The House of Lords can block any bill indefinitely. (c) The UK Supreme Court can strike down an Act of Parliament. (d) Health is a devolved matter in Scotland. (e) Northern Ireland's Executive must include both unionists and nationalists.

Corrigé

(a) Faux. Voters elect MPs; the leader of the party that can command a majority in the Commons becomes Prime Minister.

(b) Faux. Since the Parliament Acts of 1911 and 1949, the Lords can only delay most bills; the Commons has the final say.

(c) Faux. Because of parliamentary sovereignty, the courts can interpret an Act or declare it incompatible with the European Convention on Human Rights, but they cannot annul it.

(d) Vrai.
