Plan. I. A shared liberal core: flexible labour markets, low unemployment, weak private-sector unions and a lighter tax burden than in France. II. But two different societies: a universal NHS against an employer-based health system, a tax burden at the OECD average against one of the lowest, unions twice as strong in Britain. III. And, since 2025, two diverging strategies: American tariffs and a climate reversal, British free trade agreements and legally binding climate targets.
Introduction (environ 120 mots) : Seen from Paris, Britain and America often look like two versions of the same economic creed: flexible labour markets, a small state and faith in competition. The ``Anglo-Saxon model'' became a byword for the liberal turn taken under Thatcher and Reagan. Yet the figures tell a more complex story. In 2024, tax revenues amounted to 34.4 per cent of GDP in Britain but only 25.6 per cent in the United States, and British workers enjoy a universal health service that most Americans can only envy. Since 2025, the two countries have even taken opposite paths on trade and climate. This essay will argue that the model survives as a labour- market model, but no longer as a coherent vision of society.
Ce qui fait la note : l'amorce par le point de vue français, une problématique annoncée par yet, deux chiffres sourcés, une thèse qui distingue deux sens du mot model.
