Énoncé
Réécrire ces phrases dans le registre soutenu d'un essai, sans changer leur sens : (a) Lots of kids can't afford to go to uni. (b) The economy got way worse after the crisis. (c) I think social media is a big problem for teens. (d) Stuff made in China is cheaper. (e) Governments don't really care about climate change.
Corrigé
(a) Many young people cannot afford to attend university. Abréviations (kids, uni) et contraction supprimées ; lots of devient many.
(b) The economy deteriorated sharply in the wake of the crisis. Got way worse : un verbe exact (deteriorated) et un adverbe (sharply).
(c) Social media arguably poses a serious threat to teenagers' well-being. Arguably remplace I think ; big problem est précisé (pour quoi ? leur bien-être).
(d) Goods manufactured in China tend to be cheaper. Tend to évite une généralisation absolue, qu'un correcteur relèverait.
(e) Governments have often been reluctant to treat climate change as a priority. La phrase d'origine est un jugement d'intention invérifiable ; la version soutenue en fait un constat discutable, donc argumentable.
