Chacune de ces traductions contient une faute due au calque du français. La corriger et énoncer la règle. (a) He explained me the problem. (b) She speaks very well English. (c) I wonder what does he want. (d) Prices have increased of 5 per cent since January. (e) We discussed about the reform during two hours. (f) It depends of the government.
Corrigé
(a) He explained the problem to me. Explain n'a pas de complément de personne direct : explain something to someone.
(b) She speaks English very well. On ne sépare pas le verbe de son complément d'objet : l'adverbe de manière se place après.
(c) I wonder what he wants. Pas d'inversion ni d'auxiliaire do dans l'interrogative indirecte.
(d) Prices have increased by 5 per cent since January. L'écart se dit by ; le niveau atteint, to (have risen to 5 per cent).
(e) We discussed the reform for two hours. Discuss est transitif direct ; une durée se dit for, during répond à « pendant quoi ? » (during the meeting).
(f) It depends on the government. Depend on, comme rely on, insist on.
