La phrase complexe : subordonnées, relatives, passif, discours rapporté · niveau 1 (application)

Énoncé

Mettre au discours indirect, avec le verbe introducteur indiqué au prétérit : (a) We will not raise taxes,'' the minister said.* (*promise*) (b) *Inflation has peaked,'' the governor said.* (*claim*) (c) *Why did you sell your shares?'' the journalist asked the CEO.* (d) *Don't sign the deal,'' the union told its members.* (*urge*) (e) *I made a mistake yesterday,'' she admitted.

Corrigé

(a) The minister promised not to raise taxes (ou promised that they would not raise taxes). La construction infinitive de promise est la plus légère.

(b) The governor claimed that inflation had peaked. Present perfect devenu past perfect ; claim signale une affirmation qu'on ne garantit pas.

(c) The journalist asked the CEO why he (she) had sold his (her) shares. Pas d'inversion, prétérit devenu past perfect, you devenu he ou she.

(d) The union urged its members not to sign the deal. Urge + complément + not to.

(e) She admitted that she had made a mistake the day before (ou admitted making a mistake the day before). Yesterday devient the day before ; admit se construit aussi avec -ing.
