Modèle : Anonymity online is not a single thing, and the debate suffers from treating it as one. Admittedly, anonymous accounts make harassment easier and consequences harder to enforce, and platforms that removed anonymity have reported fewer abusive messages. However, the same protection is what allowed sources to reach journalists in 2013 and 2021, and what still protects people who write about their government from where they live. Arguably, the useful question is not whether users should be identifiable, but to whom: a platform may know who someone is without publishing it. This distinction tends to disappear from public debate, even though it is the one on which any workable rule would depend.
