- So complete was the silence that we heard the clock.
- No sooner had I opened the letter than the phone rang.
Deux points de vigilance. No sooner appelle than, tandis que hardly et scarcely appellent when : c'est la faute classique. Et l'effet de l'inversion est toujours le même — elle relève le registre et met l'accent sur l'élément antéposé ; elle n'a pas sa place dans une conversation ordinaire.
