A cartoon in a British weekly. On the left, a very small figure in a huge armchair labelled `THE NATION'' is holding a paintbrush. On the right, an enormous hand coming down from the top of the frame holds a pair of scissors over the canvas. The caption reads: `Don't worry — we're only tidying up the edges.''

- Modèle : In the foreground, on the left, a tiny figure sits in an oversized armchair labelled ``THE NATION''. On the right, a giant hand enters the frame from above, holding a pair of scissors. The two figures are drawn to wildly different scales, and nothing else occupies the background.
- Modèle : The disproportion suggests an imbalance of power: the artist is dwarfed by whoever holds the scissors, and the hand is not even given a face or a name.
- Modèle : The caption is ironic because ``tidying up the edges'' presents an act of cutting as a harmless piece of housekeeping.
- Le procédé est l'antiphrase servie par la disproportion : la légende dit le contraire de ce que l'image montre, et l'écart d'échelle fait le commentaire politique à la place des mots. C'est le mécanisme même du political cartoon britannique depuis Gillray : une image qui exagère, une légende qui minimise.
