Médiation. Votre correspondant anglais a vu le film Oppenheimer et vous demande : ``Did scientists really try to stop what they had built?'' Répondez-lui en anglais (80--100 mots) en vous appuyant sur deux faits précis du chapitre.

Corrigé

Proposition : Yes, several of them did. After Hiroshima, Oppenheimer himself campaigned for international control of atomic energy, opposed the far more powerful hydrogen bomb, and even told President Truman he felt he had `blood on his hands'' — a stance that cost him his security clearance in 1954, during the McCarthy era. Other Manhattan Project scientists founded the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, which since 1947 has maintained the `Doomsday Clock'', showing how close humanity stands to catastrophe. The bomb's creators became, quite literally, its first whistle-blowers. (89 mots)
